Create stunning summer gardens with these Sainsbury's begonia bulbs. The double-flowering variety produces continuous blooms throughout the growing season. Plant them in your garden or containers for long-lasting colour.
We are committed to protecting the environment, so all of Sainsbury's bulbs, corms and seeds are from cultivated sources and not taken from the wild.
Plant from February to May. Flowering from June to first frost. Tuber size 4/5 cm. Plant height 25 cm.
Position: Plant in a sunny or partially shaded position. Planting in partial shade will ensure a longer flowering period.
Loosen the soil with a fork to a depth of 30 cm, mixing in some well rotted compost. Plant the tubers with the pointed side up, 2.5 cm below the soil surface and 20 cm apart. If planting in a container, choose a container at least 25 cm deep with large drainage holes using standard compost. Place small stones or gravel at the bottom of the pot to help drainage. Protect container from frost and severe weather. For best results in a container, plant the tubers close together.
Water well if the soil / compost is dry and keep moist during periods of dry weather. Add a general garden fertiliser after the plants start to grow. Protect from slugs and snails. Keep weed free. Support the plants by tying to canes, especially in exposed sites.
When the foliage has died back, usually after the first frost, cut back stems to 5 cm above soil level. Dig up the tubers and store them in a cool, dry and frost free place. Replant at the same time next year.
Do not eat ornamental bulbs.
Store in a cool, dry and well ventilated place until planting.
