Well known and loved, Herb Fed Poultry are raised by Emma and Edward Wilkinson on beautiful Yorkshire pastures. Their free-range living means they can peck away at the delicious grass, insects, herbs and cereals all day long and nestle down in their beds of straw in our small-flock huts by night.
Herb Fed chickens are exceptionally special not only because they are slow grown and reared in small flocks, but they are also fed on a unique diet of fresh herbs. We are the country's first and only producers of Herb Fed Poultry. Our birds fresh herb diet are the excess trimmings or herbs from another local farm that have simply gone past their best and would otherwise end up on a compost heap. By using this waste, we are not only contributing to our bird's quality of life, but doing so in a way which is sustainable and environmentally friendly. The herbs are nutrient-rich, and the variety means our birds are introduced to important additional minerals and vitamins, alongside their additive and hormone free cereal diet supplied by a local mill. The unique herb diet coupled with our slow-growing ethos allowing the meat and muscle to develop as it should, makes for our trademark taste and texture - surprisingly not herby, but exceptional!

Storage: Keep refrigerated below 4ºC. Suitable for home freezing. Freeze on day of purchase and use within three months. Defrost thoroughly before cooking. Do not refreeze once defrosted.
Preparation and Usage: Do not wash raw poultry and always wash your hands after handling raw meat. Remove the chicken from the fridge 30 minutes before cooking. Preheat your oven to 190ºC or gas mark 5. Remove all packaging before cooking and place the bird on a roasting tray and season. Cook for 18 minutes per 450g. Baste every 20 minutes with the tray juices. The chicken is cooked when juices from deep within the thigh run clear when skewered. If the bird is not cooked check every 10 minutes after the allocated cooking time. Rest the chicken for 15 minutes before carving. If cooking from frozen, ensure the bird is thoroughly defrosted before cooking. Use within 24 hours and do not refreeze once defrosted.
