Raw carrots are known for their crispness and a mildly sweet, earthy flavour. High in vitamin A and with an 80g serving as 1 of your 5 a day, carrot batons are a classic go-to for snacking on their own or combining with dips like hummus and guacamole. Use them shredded or sliced for added crunch and sweetness to salads and as a base for coleslaw.
Cooking carrots enhances their natural sweetness, and the earthy notes become more subdued. Roasting or grilling brings out a caramelised sweetness, while boiling or steaming yields a pure, subtle sweetness. Roasted, steamed, or sautéed carrots make excellent side dishes and glazing them with honey or maple syrup elevates them to another level. Carrots are a fundamental ingredient in many soups, stews, casseroles and broths, adding both flavour and a chunky texture. 3. Steam the carrots.
4. When ready, remove and serve.
