Parma ham, also known as Prosciutto di Parma, is a dry-cured ham that hails from the Parma region in Italy. It's prized for its delicate flavour and melt-in-the-mouth texture. It has a wonderful balance of sweet and savoury flavours with the sweetness coming from the natural sugars in the meat, while the savoury notes develop during the curing process. A subtle nutty flavour can also be detected which adds complexity to its taste. As the curing process involves salt, it has a noticeable salty taste, without it being overpowering.
Being thinly sliced adds to its delicate texture and melt-in-the-mouth quality. Serve with other cured meats, cheeses, and olives.
