Use Ocado Shallots to add a mild and sweet flavor to your dishes. These are fresh shallots, a versatile vegetable sourced from the UK.
Ocado Shallots. A classic in French and Asian cuisine, shallots are a mild and sweet alternative to onions. They are typically small and oval-shaped, with a beautiful coppery-pink papery skin and a purplish flesh. Their delicate flavour is a key point; they are much sweeter and milder than a regular onion, without the same harshness.
Thanks to their mild flavour, shallots are a perfect choice for a wide range of fresh uses. When finely diced, they're an essential ingredient for vinaigrettes and dressings, as they add a subtle savoury note without overpowering the other flavours. You can also thinly slice them and add them to salads or sandwiches for a delicate, savoury crunch.
When cooked, their flavour mellows even further, becoming wonderfully sweet. They are a great choice for gently sautéing as a base for sauces for meat and fish, or for roasting alongside other vegetables. They can also be used in stir-fries or savoury tarts for a delicate, sweet onion flavour.
