By reacting with the horny layer of the epidermis, in which brown melanoidins are produced, it gives the skin a delicate and effective tan effect. It is completely safe and gentle on the skin, and the tan disappears in the same way as the sun tan - as the cells of the stratum corneum exfoliate. Dihydroxyacetone is water resistant, so the tan does not wash off, but gradually fades away as the dead cells of the stratum corneum peel off. Moreover, the DHA effect can be graded, thus controlling the shade of the tan, from light to dark, with the number and frequency of applications.
