A Gewurztraminer from Spain! Yes, that was our reaction too. But hey, who needs another Spanish Tempranillo anyway? It turned out that planting Gewurztraminer high up in the foothills of the Pyrenees was a pretty good idea. Our vineyards enjoy warm days but chilly nights, which help this grape variety ripen perfectly. The result is a beautifully fresh and floral wine that has become the bestselling Gewurztraminer in Spain!

History: Somontano is a young and dynamic Denominacion de Origen, set up in 1985. Taking its name from the foothills of the Pyrenees mountains, Somontano is an area of rolling hills and chalky soil, with cold, harsh winters and hot summers - offering unbeatable growing conditions for vines. Founded in 1986, Vinas del Vero is the leading producer in the DO. Accounting for 40% of production, it is recognised for making superb wines from both indigenous and international grape varieties.

Regional information: Somontano - literally meaning 'under the mountain' - is a little known but breathtakingly beautiful area of Northern Spain, nestling in the foothills of the Pyrenees. The El Enebro single estate was planted in 1990. The vineyard lies at 400 metres above sea level, facing north. The microclimate and the nature of the soil are right for the Gewürztraminer grape, which has found its ideal Spanish habitat in Somontano.
Tasting notes: With distinct floral aromas complemented by notes of tropical fruit such as lychee, pineapple and papaya, this is an aromatic full bodied white wine. Paired with oriental dishes, its smooth and silky finish makes for the perfect combination.
