Manufacturer: Donatien Bahuaud. Country of Packing: France. History: Born in 1908 in the Nantes region, when he was young, Donatien Bahuaud used to roam throughout the local vineyards. Between the land and sea, he enjoyed watching barrel-laden boats travelling up the Loire and decided to become a winegrower. In 1929, when he was 21, he founded Maison Donatien Bahuaud and also started to explore the vineyards with his cask wines in a cart. Day after day, he carefully cultivated the vineyard, but most especially his minacious observation of the region's terroirs allowed him to elaborate exceptional wines, boasting subtle and refined flavors. A genuine talent spotter, he toured the vineyard looking for the finest appellations in the Loire Valley. This quest led him to elaborate precise wines, revealing the pure authenticity of Loire Valley grape varieties through bold blends and long ageing. As a result, he became a master in the art of wine maturing.

A combination of three Sancerre terroirs (limestone, flinty clay, and chalk). Vinification details: Harvested and sorted by hand. Cold pre-fermentation maceration followed by traditional vinification in the thermo-regulated strainless steel vats to preserve the freshness and delicate aromas of red fruit. The N7 Sancerre Rouge is the result of careful maturing adapted to the three terroirs of Sancerre to emphasise the smoothness and power of the chalky clay terroir, the fruit and freshness of the limestone, and the minerality of the flint. Lengthy ageing of 12 months (70% in vat and 30% in 400 litre oak casks), and 18 months in bottle in our cellars enables the tannins to fully integrate the wine and highlight the aromatic intensity and freshness of Pinot Noir.
