History: If the Rothschild name is now synonymous with wine-making excellence, that is because wine has always been a family passion. This passion dates back to 8 August 1868 to be precise, the date on which James de Rothschild acquired the famous Château Lafite. Later, Edmond de Rothschild - who dreamed of owning an intimate and discreet vineyard that he could shape according to his vision - went on to acquire Château Clarke, along with more than 100 hectares of vines in the Médoc region. In 2003, his son Benjamin continued the family tradition by purchasing Château des Laurets on Bordeaux's Right Bank, in the Saint-Émilion region, marking the Rothschild family's first venture into this renowned terroir.
